The Kit Carson Trail: A 2.5 mile walking path through historic residential areas of Carson City. The trail is marked along the way at 60 landmarks and “talking houses” are broadcast on AM radio giving 90 second narratives of 24 different historic homes.
Virginia City: The nation’s largest historical landmark, Virginia City was once called “the richest place on earth,” for the quantity and quality of silver and gold mined on the land here. Just fifteen miles from Carson City, visitors ride the V&T railroad, tour museums, mines and mansions and hang out in old timey saloons. Special events are held in Virginia City throughout the year.
Lake Tahoe: Spend a day at the most popular lake in the US and enjoy activities like skiing, horseback riding, boating, rafting, golf, spa treatments and many other options. Lodging shopping and dining to meet any budget and interests are readily available throughout the Tahoe area. Just fourteen miles from Carson City, Lake Tahoe is truly one of the brightest playgrounds in the west.
The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada: A fun, hands-on museum covering 8000 square feet where kids can learn about the world around them through exhibits and programs. Features a walk in kaleidoscope.
Stewart Indian Museum: Once the site of the Stewart Indian School, the American Indian history museum now displays pottery, photographs, baskets and other Native American art and crafts. A gift shop onsite sells souvenirs. Located at 5366 Snyder Avenue.
Carson Hot Springs: A natural hot water pool complex with large mineral pool and hot baths. Open daily from 8am-9pm the complex has concessions and entertainment. You can buy the bottled spring water for 75 cents a gallon. Located on Hot Springs Rd.
